The main purpose of Top of the Rock is to sing for our community. We sing at annual shows, a number of community events and at an annual competition. We are availabe to sing at your next function or event. If you're looking for a unique musical experience to liven up your event, please check out our Book Us page.
In addition to sharing our music with others, another great passion of ours is learning more about the art of a cappella singing, especially singing in the barbershop style. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals and a very important component of the chorus experience. A couple of times a year, we will get coaching from a visiting master in the art of barbershop, where we learn many fabulous tricks of the trade.
In the spring of every year, Top of the Rock participates in the Region 25 chorus competition, which will be held in our very own Robinson Performance Hall in Little Rock through 2019. Competitions are a special time for quartets and choruses from our region to come together to sing for each other and to get constructive feedback from a panel of judges. The winners of the regional competition in both quartet and chorus categories get to travel to International Competition, which is held in the fall. The location of the International Competition changes regularly.
In November 2014, Top of the Rock placed third in the world in the Harmony Classis Division AA contest held at the International Competiton in Baltimore, Maryland. Top of the Rock has been invited to compete at the 2019 competition in New Orleans.
Quartets and Ensembles
Most choruses have a number of members who form their own vocal quartets in addition to singing with the chorus. Top of the Rock currently is home to a number of wonderful quartets, and we are very proud of them! Visit our Quartets Page to learn more about them. Top of the Rock is also proud to have two talented small groups that represent the chorus at a number of community events. Visit the Ensembles page to learn more about these groups.
Top of the Rock is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, a nonprofit organization of approximately 30,000 members in choruses and quartets, worldwide. The headquarters is in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
